13th KASC American Vice Chair
University of California, San Diego
Hello! My name is Deborah Jeong, and I am the American Vice-Chair for the 13th Korea-America Student Conference! I am in my third year at the University of California, San Diego with a major in International Studies-Political Science, as well as a double minor in Law & Society, and Transnational Korean Studies. I am passionate about traveling and fostering connections across different cultures. In fact, this year, I will be interning at the U.S. State Department in Washington D.C., then leaving for a semester abroad in Geneva, Switzerland. I am extremely excited for these opportunities that will pull together my academic interests and passion for traveling.
Although I was born in South Korea, my family immigrated to the U.S. when I was two years old, and I was raised in the U.S. I applied to KASC 12 hoping to gain a more well-rounded perspective of US-ROK issues, as well as my own identity as a Korean-American. Not only did this conference far exceeded my expectations in terms of the careful balance of culture and academics, but the diversity of the delegates, as well as the speakers, allowed for meaningful and insightful conversations. The nature of the conference encouraged strong bonds to form among the delegates and allowed me to connect with both my Korean roots and my American identity. I am confident that the lessons I learned, and the connections I built will be instrumental in building upon my major for a potential career field, as a proud Korean-American. It has been a pleasure to participate in KASC 12 and I look forward to continuing the KASC legacy in 2020!
