JASC Admissions

American delegates will be selected from all fields of study and will range from 1st year college students to Ph.D. candidates. Delegates need not be Asian studies majors or studying Japanese language as English is the primary language of the Conference. While U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status is preferred, the only eligibility requirement is full-time student standing at a college or university within the United States at the time of application.

The JASC application process is rigorous and competitive. The most successful application packages will clearly demonstrate a student’s potential to contribute to the program as well as a high level of academic prowess, motivation, leadership and social skills.

The following materials are required:

- Completed, signed application

- Short answer question

- Personal Essay

- One writing sample

- Resume

- Current and official college or university transcript

- letter(s) of reference, at least one from an academic source

- non-refundable application fee

Please refer to the application for further instructions and details.

The 2010 Deadline has passed and the process is now closed.  Please consider applying for our 2011 program. Applications will be available next fall.

Program Expenses and Funding

The participation fee for the 62nd JASC is $2,800, which covers food, lodging and group travel for the duration of the Conference. Travel between each site is included in this fee. However, individual round-trip transportation to and from the American Orientation site is the responsibility of each delegate.

Each year a considerable number of American delegates receive full or partial financial support from their universities or other organizations. Upon selection, ISC and the American Executive Committee can provide advice for locating and obtaining scholarships, donations and other forms of financial aid.
