3rd KASC Preview
The 3rd KASC will convene this summer under the theme “Past, Present and Future of U.S.-Korea Relations.” KASC delegates will examine and reevaluate various issues concerning the U.S.-Korea relationship, while cultivating their own leadership skills for the future.
The program will kick off at American University in Washington, D.C. On July 14, the American delegation will greet their travel-weary Korean counterparts. After introductions and rest, the Conference will officially start with the 3rd KASC Opening Ceremony. Guests from the Korean Embassy, businesses, and universities will attend. During their stay in Washington, delegates will gain insight into the politics behind U.S.-Korea relations. They will tour the Smithsonian Institutes and monuments, as well as visit the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the World Bank for a briefing. Furthermore, KASC will hold its third Six Party Talks Simulation led by staff from the Korea Economic Institute.
KASC will then travel to the city of Philadelphia, PA and visit the University of Pennsylvania from July 21 to 27. Delegates will tour the historic city of Philadelphia, and hold a panel and reception with the faculty from UPenn’s Center for Korean Studies. Delegates will look forward to the Talent Show, which is always a memorable event. On their last day in Philadelphia, delegates will travel to New York City and visit the UN. The briefing and tour of the UN will give the delegates a sense of how this influential international organization works and contributes to the global community.
From Philadelphia, the delegates will trek across the U.S. They will first stop in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The stop in Michigan will focus on the cultural aspects of the U.S. Part I is to visit a Native American Indian Reserve, where delegates will learn about U.S. history. Part II is a home stay wherein one Korean and one American delegate will pair up and experience the unique lifestyle of the Midwest. KASCers will then travel to Indiana for the first ever KASC/JASC (Japan-America Student Conference, KASC’s sister program) Trilateral Meeting at Trine University. This is sure to be not only an educational, but also a memorable meeting for everyone.
The final site is Stanford, California, where delegates will call Stanford University their home. Before their Final Forum presentations, delegates will participate in a business visit, and also have a chance to relax on a Californian beach. All the hard work and sleepless nights will culminate in the Final Forum. On August 9, delegates will present their roundtable capstone projects to judges and other students. The 3rd KASC will come to a close on August 12. We hope that delegates will establish lasting commitments with the ideas spawned throughout the four weeks of traveling and discussion and represent the KASC spirit for the rest of their lives.

Good-bye Regina
This month, ISC will say goodbye to our Executive Director, Ms. Regina Dull. Regina joined ISC in 2004. During her time at ISC, she has led us through a strong period of growth and change. She was able to lead ISC through a complete organizational change while retaining the organization’s 76 years of prestige. Regina helped implement the Korea-America Student Conference (KASC), which allowed ISC to grow using the strong JASC model. She introduced the ISC office to a new level of professionalism by increasing staff capacity and programming. She relocated the office, introduced modernized technology, and standardized office procedures. In addition to all of this, Regina took part in establishing a very successful internship program. She especially enjoyed working with ISC staff and JASC & KASC AECs throughout the years. She mentioned that the staff at the ISC office are some of the most personally invested people, which will be hard to find anywhere else. Also, talking to alumni has given her a sense of fulfillment. She would like to send out special thanks to everyone who keeps in touch and attends the alumni reunions.
After ISC, Regina plans to spend more time with her family, especially her eighteen-month-old daughter. At the same time, she will continue to seek new opportunities to challenge the mind and fulfill the soul.
Welcome Sarah Thompson, New Executive Director

Sarah also served as Executive Director of Meridian’s affiliate organization, THIS for Diplomats, which offers information assistance and cultural programming to the foreign diplomatic community.
At the Brookings Institution, Sarah organized large-scale, international conferences and a visiting fellows program as manager of the Center for Northeast Asian Policy Studies, which focuses on policy developments in China, Hong Kong, Japan, the Koreas, Russia, and Taiwan.
